(A‘N’D Spring/Summer 2014)
A‘N’D’s latest collection for Spring/Summer 2014 takes its inspiration from the vogue for street style, fashion outfit commentary photographs. These photos, which cover the pages of fashion magazines and style watching blogs aim to present 'real peoples' fashion tastes, along with a documentary of what the fashion industry professionals, the editors and commentators, are wearing while reporting on international fashion week collections.
A‘N’D propose a deconstructed view of street style photography. They take a step back (or sideways) from the focus on the fashion realism of a street style snap shot. Instead, they look straight through the fleeting personal style moment and focus attention on the blurred background of the street-scape and frame an incidental depth of field impressionism. The boundaries are blurred quite literally, as the intended human subject is dissolved into an uncontrived, randomly occurring backdrop.
Adding another twist to further distort familiar archetypes, A‘N’D take these collected incidental ‘portraits’ and digitally superimpose them onto minimal shift dresses, tops and skirts, essentially merging the wearer with their background composition. The layering of these deconstructed dimensions blend, to form a subtly disconcerting, picturesque urban camouflage.
As an added accent, to complement this incidental layering, A‘N’D have also superimposed cut and paste styling focussed imagery onto shopper bags, clutch bags and silk scarves.
The overall ‘look’ created, is the illusion of uncontrived ease…
